LMV2 TO LMV4
Hi,
I am running a private institute in saharanpur on which i have taken commercial electricity connection. Last dec 2023 people came from electricity's department and said your tariff is in LMV2 which is not for private Institute, you have to convert it to LMV4 , which i gave the application and security amount also.
In Jan 2024 my electricity connection converted to LMV4 PV Commercial.
Now my concern is on 15th Nov 2024, a person came for department and said you have to pay ₹ 3,27,000 as for assessment done to convert the tariff.
Please guide me what to do now, and i pay my bills every month on time
Thank
Sameer

The concept is straightforward: using electricity at a higher tariff rate while being sanctioned under a lower tariff category is considered unauthorized use of electricity.
There might be two scenario:
- If a consumer requests a tariff conversion, the tariff is changed without any penalty. However, the consumer must pay the estimated amount for additional security, processing fees, and other applicable charges.
- On the other hand, if the department detects usage of a higher tariff category under a lower tariff category sanction, an assessment is raised.
Assessment involves calculating the difference between the charges of the higher tariff and the lower tariff. To penalize this offense, the department applies double the rate of the higher tariff.
In your case, the assessment amount of ₹3,27,000 seems high. Since you have not provided details such as the sanctioned load and the assessment calculation sheet, it’s difficult to evaluate. You may request the calculation sheet from the department and share it for further assistance.
