Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited is ready to provide the new electricity connection within 10 days. Yes, applicants may apply a new electricity connection online through the web portal. It is claimed as a single-window online solution. So, one can upload all the required documents by scanning it and pay through net banking, PayTM or other online means. No need to submit documents and payment manually at the office. Applicants may track the status of an application and get SMS/Email alerts.
Eligibility to Apply for a New Electricity Connection via Jhatpat Portal:
- Domestic Connections (Category LMV-1): All Load
- Other Connections (Up to 20 kW): Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, Temporary Connection, Electric Vehicle Charging
For Connections Above 20 kW
For commercial and industrial connections with a load requirement of more than 20 kW, the application must be submitted through the Nivesh Mitra portal - https://niveshmitra.up.nic.in/
Following documents should be ready in your system before applying the new connection
- Passport size photo of the applicant.
- Identity Proof: Aadhaar-based e-KYC or an identity card like a Voter ID, Driving License, or PAN card along with your photograph.
- Proof of Occupancy/Ownership: Registered sale deed, Latest house tax receipt, Rent agreement along with an indemnity bond or a consent letter from the landlord.
- B&L Form / Personal Bond:
- For domestic connections, a personal bond is sufficient, which the Jhatpat portal will generate automatically. You just need to provide details of the electrical appliances and their load at your premises.
- For all categories except domestic, a B&L form prepared by a licensed contractor from the Electrical Safety Directorate, U.P. is mandatory.
Registration
First, you need to register on the official UPPCL website. to access the Jhatpat portal. The registration is free of charge.
During registration, you will need to provide the following details:
- Applicant's Name
- Date of Birth
- Email ID
- Mobile Number
Note: It's crucial to provide your own mobile number, as this will become your Registered Mobile Number (RMN) for all future SMS alerts and communications from the department. Once registration is complete, your User ID and Password will be sent to your RMN via SMS.
Filling the Application and Uploading Documents: Fill the application and upload scanned documents which you have kept with you.
Paying the Processing Fee
Once the form is filled and documents are uploaded, you must pay a non-refundable processing fee online. Payment can be made via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI. The application is not considered complete until this fee is paid.

Note: It is important to double-check all information before paying the processing fee, as changes can only be made before this step. If you find an error after payment, you must inform the department official during the site inspection
Post-Application Procedure and Timelines
Paying the processing fee doesn't mean the connection is approved. It initiates a multi-step process.
- Verification and Inspection: The department will review your documents. If there are discrepancies, a query will be raised online, and you'll be notified via SMS. A site inspection will then be conducted to prepare an estimation cost for the connection.
- Payment of Estimation Cost: You will be informed of the estimation cost via the portal and SMS. This amount must be paid online within a specific timeframe: 7 days if no network extension is needed, and 90 days if a new line or sub-station needs to be built. Failure to pay on time may lead to the cancellation of your application.
- Meter Installation: After the estimation cost is paid and any required NOCs are submitted, the meter will be installed and the connection will be activated.
The timeline for meter installation varies by location (assuming no network extension is required):
- Nagar Nigam Area: 3 days
- Nagar Palika Area: 7 days
- Rural Area: 15 days
If network extension is required, the maximum time for installation is 90 days
