Tariff Rate Schedule 2024-25 (Oct 2024 – Present)

After 17 October 2024, electricity tariff for FY 2024-25 came into effect with no rate increase for any consumer category. Key features include reduced Green Tariff (₹0.36/unit), capped Cross Subsidy Surcharge, transparency in Multi-Storied Buildings, revised ToD slots, electronic bill delivery, abolition of Smart Meter disconnection/reconnection charges, and HV-2 category benefits extended to certain IT/ITeS industries.

Main Highlight

  • No Change in Electricity Rates: For the fifth consecutive year, the tariff rates for all consumer categories have been kept unchanged.

Key Changes & Announcements

For Domestic Consumers (LMV-1)

  • 3-Phase Connections: Consumers with a contracted load between 3 kW and 5 kW are now enabled to apply for a 3-phase connection to get better power quality.
  • Smart Meter Charges: For smart meter consumers, the Rs. 50 charge for disconnection and reconnection has been abolished.
  • Smart Meter Installation: The cost of installing new smart meters will not be passed on to the consumers.
  • Single-Point Connections: New penalties have been prescribed for single-point connection holders (like housing societies) who fail to disclose billing information to their residents.
  • Electronic Bills: DISCOMs are now clarified to be able to send electricity bills via electronic means, including email and WhatsApp, based on the consumer's choice.

For Industrial & Commercial Consumers

  • Time of Day (TOD) Slots: For the first time, different time slots are defined for summer and winter. Previously, only the rates within the slots could change; the slot timings themselves were identical for summer and winter, each lasting 6 hours.
    • In summer (April–September), the TOD slots now have irregular durations (5, 9, 8, and 2 hours) instead of equal 6-hour slots, and the hours with positive rates have increased.
    • In winter (October–March), the slots remain 6 hours each, but the summer and winter slot timings are now distinct.
  • IT & ITeS Industry: A provision has been created to allow IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) industries to receive the benefits of the industrial (HV-2) tariff, as per government policy.
  • Automatic Load Revision: If a consumer's maximum demand exceeds their sanctioned load at least three times in a financial year, the DISCOM can automatically increase their sanctioned load starting from the next financial year.

For EV & Green Energy

  • Green Energy Tariff Reduced: The Green Energy Tariff has been reduced from Rs. 0.44 per unit to Rs. 0.36 per unit.
  • EV Charging: The tariff rates for Public Charging Stations (LMV-11) will now also apply to State Road Transport EV charging stations.
  • RRTS Tariff: The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) will be charged the same electricity tariff as Metro Rail services (HV-3).
